Why doctors make the worst patients

You ever hear that or do you believe that? Why would doctors not even like taking the medicine they have prescribed for others? That's kind of, um, is it hypocritical or worse, even dishonest? Does it mean they don't even believe in their own cures or the training they have received? Or that the cure is so terrible even they are afraid to take it? Or that they know how good they are and they don't trust any other doctor to know better or enough to help the situation and not be the cause of even more unintentional harm on the very ones they seek to heal?

This is a similar scenario to the fitness professional who hates to practice what she preaches. Why would I tell you to do something that I myself hate to do and perhaps don't even do even if I think I should do it?

Do you require that your doctor be healthy to treat you?

Do you require that your fitness professional be a model of fitness first in order to be hired by you?

As a fitness professional, would you adhere to your own prescriptions as happily or more likely, as reluctantly, as your clients?

What would integrity look like in the fitness industry?

Can you judge the fitness of a person by their physical body?

Can you condemn a person visually to unfitness because of their perceived fatness to you?

Does a person have to have experienced your particular situation personally to really understand you and guide you to a fitter you? (i.e. Does your doctor have to have experienced cancer to cure it?) If no, would you trust him/her more if he/she had?

Does your fitness professional need to have experienced unfitness and fatness in order to be an experienced guide?

Can anyone but yourself truly lead you to a healthier life?

Ultimately, we must stop asking the impossible of others. Ultimately, we must each take our own personal responsibility for our healing as well as our health.

If you think the doctor can help you, then go. If you believe the fitness professional can assist you then engage her. But ultimately, whether or not you reach your goal rests upon you, 100% your responsibility.

So, what kind of patient are you for you? Help yourself and be a good patient and cooperate with what you know to be the best for you and act as if you believe in your ability to effect your own healing as you learn to reactivate and reconnect to the power source which holds the vibration of wholeness and health for each of us.
