Ah, variety, truly the way we experience abundance. How much variety in your life is totally a choice. I personally think people make themselves hate their workout. Out of all the things you can think of to do, you can't find anything that's fun and a good workout? Hrmpphh! You are probably a very boring and controlling person and someone who could use a huge dose of variety in their fitness life at the very least.
I love the Wii for that fact. In fact, that will be the title of my column for today. Variety in your fitness routine. I know the panicked exerciser always wants some kind of rigid prescription that will produce x results. Hey, it only works when it works for as long as it works and we will both discover whether it works at the same time. Rigid prescriptions are but a limit on variety and a guarantee of burnout and boredom.
Get some life in your fitness life, you fitness professionals. If you don't have a passion for fitness, re-ignite it for yourself. That's the only way you will be able to coach others into re-igniting theirs. Try something different. It's always good for a fitness professional to feel absolutely uncoordinated and stupid while in a class, but not for too long if the instructor is good, for it keeps perspective fresh and hones good teaching skills.
